In line with many clinical commissioning groups nationally, and in particular Luton, Bedfordshire and Nene / Northamptonshire, NHS Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group is recommending to GP practices that they do not accept requests for repeat prescriptions from community pharmacies. Work elsewhere has shown a high level of waste particularly when the patient isn’t contacted by the pharmacy before the repeat is requested from the practice. See below where we have attached a leaflet that patients will receive along with a personalised letter from their practice. Practices will also take the opportunity to promote sign up to on-line services.

Upcoming Events For Galley Hill Residents
It’s going to be a busy time in Galley Hill for the coming week. The Galley Hill Residents Association have a few things planned and we would love to see some of the residents there.
Firstly we have our second Easter Egg Hunt on the 13th April at the St. Mary St. Giles School. Entry is free for all, from 12pm until 2:00pm. You can leave your purses and wallets at home, as there will be free refreshments, free eggs for all the children who complete the egg hunt as well as crafts and a free prize draw to win one of 10 Easter themed toys kindly donated by a GH resident.
All from Galley Hill and our neighbouring areas (Fullers Slade, Stony Stratford etcetera) are welcome to join us on the day.

Next on the list of things to do is the litter pick on 14th of April at 10:45 outside the St. Mary St. giles School. As always we are looking for volunteers to help us pick up litter around Galley Hill to make the area we live in just a little bit nicer. Just an hour out of a Sunday morning can make a huge difference. As usual we will be assisted by the Stony Stratford Community Church volunteers, who also supply the equipment to help with the task.
Finally for the week, we have the GHRA monthly meeting at the Small Meeting place above the shop, at 7pm on Thursday the 18th of April. It would be nice to see some new faces alongside our regulars, and hear what you think needs to be done to make Galley Hill a better place to live.
Also, don’t forget our coffee mornings at the small meeting place every Tuesday morning from 10am until 12 am, free coffee or tea, biscuits and sometimes cakes too. Come along and say “hi” to some of your neighbours.
Finally, as always, thanks for all the support for the Galley Hill Residents Association, from all of the GHRA committee.
Upcoming Meetings For Galley Hill Residents
Stony Stratford Town Council’s next meeting will be at 19th March at the Small Meeting Place in Galley Hill. The meeting starts at 7pm, and it may be good to have a strong turnout by interested local residents.
We should also mention that, finding there was money left in the 2018/19 SSTC budget earmarked for local groups, Sue Titchmarsh, ( as Events Co-ordinator) has put in an application ( countersigned by Roy Adams, GHRA Treasurer) on GHRA’s behalf for £200 towards running an Easter Egg hunt ( similar to last year) . It would be good if people were there to look the other councillors in the eye when they are making the decision on this.
We are expecting another group of people will be there to express their concerns over some children within the Stony Stratford part Radcliffe School catchment are not being able to gain places at the school.
So, it could be a lively meeting and worthwhile attending.
Following this, on Thursday 21st March it is the GHRAs own monthly meeting, at the Small Meeting Place again at 7pm. and we would like to hear from you there too.
Please try to attend one or both of these meetings if you can so we can remind the Council that we are still here, and to help the GHRA to decide where we should be investing our energies on behalf of everyone in Galley Hill.

February 2019 Quick Update
With the end of February looming and spring fast approaching we thought it was time we updated you on the things going on in your local area and what we in the Galley Hill Residents Association are up to.
Firstly, our recent bi-monthly litter pick was carried out in February with the usual help from the Stony Stratford Community Church volunteers, so a big thank you to them and to the local volunteers who turned out on a cold and rainy Sunday to clean up our area. The next litter pick will be on April 14th at 10:45 if anyone would like to volunteer, the more the merrier.
In local news, we have been told that the next Fullers Slade Regeneration Design Meeting will be held at the Rowans Centre on 27th February.
Also over in the neighbouring community of Fullers Slade is this fitness group we have been asked to let people know about

On a slightly less positive note, our Treasurer and local Councillor Roy Adams received a call on Saturday morning from Eric, the Church Warden at the SMP, saying that he had discovered that the Arts Centre below the SMP had been broken into. Roy had this to say
“The villains, had broken through the bottom panel of the side door and then opened the main doors. Unfortunately, we couldn’t tell if anything had been taken because we didn’t know what was in there in the first place. They appear to have made a bit of a mess( but, again we don’t know what state the property was in before).
I had the devil’s own job of trying to get someone at MKC to try and take responsibility for securing the centre again on a Saturday, ( contractors for YourMK and the Council kept saying that they only deal with residential properties).
I’ve made the Cuture Dept of MKC aware this morning and they are sending someone to check up on the situation and make sure it is secure.
I reported the crime to Thames Valley Police on 101 “
As usual, stay vigilant, stay safe and thank you for reading.

A Wonderful Christmas Event
Saturday the 15th December dawned and the events team were concerned, the volunteers were dwindling due to ill health or other commitments. Still, the event must go ahead so we convened at the school to start setting up for the craft activities and refreshments.
Thanks to the volunteers who were there we had an event set up in the two halls of SMSG school and were ready with plenty of time to spare. Thanks to the school kitchen staff member who set up the trolley and cooked our hot dogs, we could feed anybody who turned up.

We set up our raffle prizes table and had one of our lovely volunteers hand out free raffle tickets to people as they arrived.

We had a few craft stalls where children could make Christmas cards, paper plate baubles, and pipe cleaner candy canes. The children also had a treasure hunt to find the letters to spell out “Santa Claus” and win a go on the lucky dip and some chocolate coins.

We had a very good turnout, with an estimate of over 50 children and their parents or carers attending (we handed out 56 children’s gifts of a book or selection box of sweets as they left). Feedback was excellent and all said the children enjoyed it.

All too soon the event came to an end as the raffle was drawn and people headed home. Once again our volunteers stepped up and cleaned up the halls and put the school back in order ready for lessons on Monday.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the event a huge success, and to all the families who turned up and made it all worth the effort. A huge thank you to SMSG school for allowing us to use their halls, and to those who donated raffle prizes etc.
Finally, the Galley Hill Residents Association committee would like to say thank you for your support this year and to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Mesothelioma Center (Asbestos.com).
As you may be aware, mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer caused from asbestos exposure. Due to the long latency period of mesothelioma, approximately 20-50 years, about 80% of those who are diagnosed with this terrible disease are seniors. Our organization works 1-on-1 with these individuals to help them find local doctors, treatment centers and support groups.

9Th December 2018 Litter Pick.
At 10:45 am members of GHRA, residents from Galley Hill and the volunteers from Stony Stratford Community Church met outside St. Mary St. Giles School to start our bi-monthly litter pick. We each went off in teams or pairs and set about picking up the litter. The whole thing is scheduled as just an hour out of everybody’s time and makes a difference around our area.

The Stony Stratford Community Church do a lot around the local area, and have several events planned over the Christmas period. Here is a list of their planned events.

A big thank you to all who turned up to help with the litter pick today.
Hope to see some of you at our GHRA events too – the GHRA Committee
Community events in Galley Hill – update
We will start with the recent visit to the GHRA meeting by Stony in Bloom’s Judy Deveson. Judy told us about the history and work of the Stony In Bloom team, in Stony Stratford and the surrounding areas including Galley Hill. You may not know their work, but you will most likely have admired the beautiful flower beds they take responsibility for in our area including the one by the Caterpillar park and the lovely displays at the entrances to Galley Hill which burst forth in red roses every year.
Stony In Bloom are currently looking for volunteers to help them keep the flower beds looking splendid all year round, so if you are interested in helping out then you can contact them via Judy
Please consider helping out the SIB team if you can spare a little time.

The hedgehog boxes have been hidden along fences and have a sheet of paper and some harmless ink inside to capture the footprints of the hedgehogs passing through. Thanks to all the people from Fullers Slade and Galley Hill who turned up to help.
Firstly, on the 11th of December we are going to be carol singing around the courts of Galley Hill. If you would like to get involved then the singers will be meeting at the SMSG School in Galley Hill from 6pm. Rumours of mince pies and hot drinks afterwards are being confirmed by our events team as true.
On the 15th December the GHRA events team are organising a Christmas event at SMSG school. This will start at 12:00 and finish at 15:00, we will have craft activities for children, a SANTA hunt, free entry into a raffle and a free gift for each child who attends. The whole event is free thanks to GHRA funding gained from the various Councils. It would be great to see you at this event which is open to all of our neighbouring estates too!
