A Wonderful Christmas Event

Saturday the 15th December dawned and the events team were concerned, the volunteers were dwindling due to ill health or other commitments. Still, the event must go ahead so we convened at the school to start setting up for the craft activities and refreshments.

Thanks to the volunteers who were there we had an event set up in the two halls of SMSG school and were ready with plenty of time to spare. Thanks to the school kitchen staff member who set up the trolley and cooked our hot dogs, we could feed anybody who turned up.

Roy and Paul prepare to keep our guests fed and watered with free refreshments.

We set up our raffle prizes table and had one of our lovely volunteers hand out free raffle tickets to people as they arrived.

We had a few craft stalls where children could make Christmas cards, paper plate baubles, and pipe cleaner candy canes. The children also had a treasure hunt to find the letters to spell out “Santa Claus” and win a go on the lucky dip and some chocolate coins.

Craft tables were popular for children to make festive things.

We had a very good turnout, with an estimate of over 50 children and their parents or carers attending (we handed out 56 children’s gifts of a book or selection box of sweets as they left). Feedback was excellent and all said the children enjoyed it.

All too soon the event came to an end as the raffle was drawn and people headed home. Once again our volunteers stepped up and cleaned up the halls and put the school back in order ready for lessons on Monday.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the event a huge success, and to all the families who turned up and made it all worth the effort. A huge thank you to SMSG school for allowing us to use their halls, and to those who donated raffle prizes etc.

Finally, the Galley Hill Residents Association committee would like to say thank you for your support this year and to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

 The Mesothelioma Center (Asbestos.com).
As you may be aware, mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer caused  from asbestos exposure. Due to the long latency period of mesothelioma, approximately 20-50 years, about 80% of those who are diagnosed with this terrible disease are seniors. Our organization works 1-on-1 with these individuals to help them find local doctors, treatment centers and support groups.

9Th December 2018 Litter Pick.

At 10:45 am members of GHRA, residents from Galley Hill and the volunteers from Stony Stratford Community Church met outside St. Mary St. Giles School to start our bi-monthly litter pick. We each went off in teams or pairs and set about picking up the litter. The whole thing is scheduled as just an hour out of everybody’s time and makes a difference around our area.

This was our pile of sacks after an hour’s litter pick on Galley Hill

Galley Hill and Fullers Slade Nature Reserve

We have had a plea for help to build a nature reserve for Galley Hill and Fullers Slade residents to enjoy. Please help if you can.

Nature Area, Sorry for the short notice but wondering if anyone is free Sunday and would like to help with starting to get our nature area up and running! I am picking up some bat boxes tomorrow and some simple devices to find out if we have any hedgehogs (it’s still mild and Parks Trust would be interested to see if we can record any). Parks trust are also supplying bat boxes and The Wild Bird Cafe are supplying bird food and hedgehog food and a couple of small bird nest boxes to get us started. Would be really, really kind if anyone has a ladder and dosent mind going about 7ft up a tree. All are very welcome of all ages shouldn’t be too long if anyone can help please message, Please come along Sunday 18th at 12.00 at the Caterpillar Park and we can go from there. Really appreciate any help x

August Litter Pick

Once again the GHRA, Galley Hill residents and Stony Stratford Community Church came together to help keep our estate tidy. We are pleased to say that there was much less litter to be collected around Galley Hill this time so our pile was quite small.

Thanks to all who attended and helped clean up Galley Hill

we hope some more residents will get involved in future litter picks and extend our gratitude to those who attended and helped with the August Litter Pick. As always a huge thank you to the Stony Stratford Community Church for their support and loaning us their equipment.

Thank you, from the Galley Hill Residents Association.
